SALEM, OR – Prominent construction contractor Rich Duncan, Owner of Rich Duncan Construction will be recognized at the Salem Leadership Impact Hour on March 18, 2021. The virtual event is from Noon to 1:00 pm and is hosted by the Santiam River District (representing the Salem area of Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America).

Oregon suffered several devastating wildfires in 2020. The Santiam Canyon was hard hit. Once vibrant and beautiful, the town of Detroit was reduced to a ghost town. The Beachie Creek and Lion’s Head wildfires merged in the city’s center, decimating much of the landscape, homes, and businesses.  The heart of Detroit, the city hall, was also lost.

However, out of those ashes, a community effort was borne to build a community building for Detroit. Our distinguished citizen this year is leading that effort. Duncan is a long-time commercial construction contractor in Salem. Duncan, along with a coalition of leaders formed the Santiam Rebuild Coalition. Over 90 contractors pledged to provide labor and materials. In late January, the coalition secured a piece of virtually untouched land. The Detroit Lake Foundation is the nonprofit that will accept materials and donations.

Duncan has a history of giving back to the community and is worthy of this leadership award. He will accept the award on behalf of the entire team of volunteers and contractors who are helping rebuild Detroit.  He represents not only the value and importance of the construction trades but also what it means to be a community leader. Our young people can learn from these heroic efforts.

While the virtual event is free, a donation will be requested, and registration is required. Those interested in attending can RSVP by clicking on the link https://cpcbsa.org/upcoming-events/impact-hour-salem/
